LPG is getting an overhaul in installation safety standards. Following last year’s changes to HSE document L56 which gives latest guidance on the GSIUR regulations, standards document BS 6891 is set to be published covering the new recommendations of L56.
BS6891 provides specification for the installation and maintenance of low pressure gas installation pipework up to 35mm (R1¼) in premises and Annex E within the document details requirements for LPG final stage regulators and safety devices. This contains revised requirements for safety devices on gas cylinder regulators, whether fitted to one cylinder or more there must be an overpressure shut off device and a limited relief valve fitted protecting downstream pipework and appliances.
To coincide with this Clesse Industries launch a range of cylinder pressure regulators fitted with CSR (Consumer Safety Reset) over pressure shut off device. Ready to meet new requirements, models are now available to suit all installation types, from direct cylinder mounted to wall mounted manual and automatic changeover versions, each having the standard patented CSR OPSO system.
Managing Director Kaz Dziamarski – This is a major step in aligning LP gas with other forms of energy in relation to safety and how the consumer interacts with gas equipment. CSR design is based on a principle similar to an electrical circuit breaker safety reset system, visual indication is resettable by the consumer in much the same way as other forms of consumer protection devices.
CSR OPSO highlights installation pressure problems, and if this happens repeatedly then the consumer is advised to consult a qualified gas engineer. In this way the consumer is engaged in gas safety awareness, and together with qualified installers this can promote the quality of cylinder installations in the LP gas business.
Cylinder mounted versions have a protective cover ensuring the diaphragm vents are further weather protected and also preventing the CSR OPSO button against accidental impact damage when the cylinders are changed.
Each is boxed with informative distinctive CSR packaging promoting the benefits to consumers and installers. Available now for direct mounted propane cylinders and wall mounted versions – single cylinder, manual and automatic changeovers for multiple cylinder installations.
